MULTI-PROGRAM CLASSES

(FOR ALL ADULT LEADERS, INTERESTED PARENTS & YOUTH LEADERS)

MPC1 Youth Protection Training (YPT) for Cub & Boy Scout Leaders (P1 & P2 - two period class)
You know you need it so take it now. Remember, this is required for Cub & Boy Scout tour permits and it has to be renewed every three years. Do you need to renew?

MPC2 Venturing Youth Protection Training (P3 & M1- two period class)
This is the Youth Protection Training you need for Venturing tour permits. It is not the same as MPC1 above. It also prepares you to present the Youth Awareness video, a must for every Crew.

MPC3 Health & Safety (P1)
How does the “Guide to Safe Scouting” apply to your plan for conducting a safe Scout program and outing? Protect your youth and keep yourself out of harm’s way by learning the “Do’s & Don’ts”.

MPC4 Safety Afloat & Safe Swim Defense (P4 & P5 - two period class)
Learn how to assure that you are providing a safe aquatic program for your Scouts. You will receive a two-year certification, which is required for tour permits that include including water activities for all Cub, Scout, and Venturing outings. This is also a Venturing Ranger Requirement.

MPC5 Emergency Preparedness (P4)
Learn how to prepare your Scout unit and your family for the next emergency. The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is pleased to partner with the BSA to increase the level of citizen preparedness across the country. DHS has asked the BSA to help citizens prepare for emergencies of all kinds.

MPC6 Council Camps: Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley, Oso Lake, Newport Sea Base, and the Outdoor Education Center (P5)
Learn what Orange County Council’s camps have to offer your youth from Cubs, Scouts and Venturers. Experience fun, adventure and excitement with activities such as sailing, camping, hiking, merit badge programs and service projects. Weekend and long-term adventures, horseback riding, and even bird watching await you.

MPC7 Understanding ADD/ADHD and Special Needs Scouting (P3)
Do you work with ADHD, physically handicapped or mentally challenged youth? Learn new stimulating methods, program ideas, and trails of advancement to inspire your youth.

MPC8 The Mystery of Re-Chartering Revealed (P4)
This year, make your unit re-chartering easy. Discover the secrets of simple and efficient re-chartering. Learn about on-line re-chartering as well as upcoming changes in the process. Your re-charter will be accurate and on time. Be the first to say “I’ll volunteer for that”

MPC9 Scouting History (P2)
Share the tradition of Scouting with your unit. From Baden Powell in England to the United States, California, and Orange County, Scouting has a rich history. The 100th anniversary of Scouting worldwide is 2007 and in United States is 2010.

MPC10 Adult Recognitions and Awards (P3)
Awards aren’t just for youth. Learn what formal BSA recognitions are available to acknowledge your unit’s adult leadership .Learn about the “District Award of Merit”, and “Silver Beaver” and newly authorized recognition knots. Discover ways to show appreciation to parents and leaders publicly by presenting them with inexpensive yet innovative and clever awards for their time and service. Learn how these awards can make your parent recruitment easier.

MPC11 Religious Emblems for Youth & Adults (P3 & M1- two period class)
Let’s not forget to keep “Duty to God” in Scouting. Understand the many religious programs and awards available to youth and adults of all faiths.

 MPC12 Understanding LDS Scouting (P5)
Learn how the Scouting program helps strengthen the Young Men’s program in the LDS Church and how the church supports the Scouting program. This class is for both LDS members and non-LDS members.

MPC13 Young Adult Programs in Scouting (P5)
Basic Scoutmaster College elective focus course
Scouting doesn’t stop when youth reach 18 or attain the Eagle rank. Learn how to raise the adrenalin factor with challenging program options for Venture Patrols, Venturing Crews, Varsity Teams, Sea Scout Ships, and Explorer Posts. Many of these programs are for both young men and young women.

MPC14 Swing Dancing (P5)
Impress your friends by being one of the first people on the dance floor. You will learn the basics of swing dancing and gain confidence as well. Learn how your Crew or other group can plan a dance outing.

MPC15 Use Scouting activities to make your family vacation fun (P2)
Activities like rock climbing, snorkeling, SCUBA and kayaking can add fun and excitement to your next family vacation and help your Scout earn that next advancement. Get ideas on where to go, preparation, and how to make it happen. Get tips and information on planning that perfect family vacation.

MPC16 Scout Leader Team Building Activities (P5)
Learn simple games that will bring your unit together. Learn to build trust in each Scout leader. Enable your unit to work together and have fun doing it.

MPC17 Activity Consultants (P3)
Want a truly spectacular outing or training session? Do you need help with archery, SCUBA, GPS, backpacking, climbing and many others? How about using an expert? Understand the benefits of activity consultants, how to locate and recruit them to help High Adventure and other scouting activities.

MPC18 Enthusiastic Service Project Ideas (M1 & M2 – two classes offered)
Discover fun and meaningful service project ideas for your Pack, Troop, Team or Crew. Get some fresh ideas and let enthusiasm ignite your program.

MPC19 Order of the Arrow – Adult Nominations (M1)
Unlock the secrets of adult nominations to the Order of the Arrow. Discover the meaning of “long term resident camp”. Find out what every Troop committee member and District committee member should know to properly nominate an adult to the OA.

MPC20 Tour the World With Scouting (M1)
Let Scouting enhance your international travels. Discover places to visit, how to arrange special tours and what Scout facilities you, your family or your Scout unit can use as you travel the world

MPC21 Tour the USA With Scouting (M2)
Enhance your travels in the United States through Scouting and earn historical awards. Travel west to east and back again via Scout camps.

Add this exciting program to the activities for your Cubs, Webelos, and Scouts.

MPC23 Philmont Training Center (PTC) (M1)
Learn what a week at this spectacular center will do for you. The Philmont Training Center offers opportunities for National Advanced Youth Leader Experience (NAYLE) and training for adult leaders of Cubs, Boy Scouts, Venturing, Districts, Councils, and religious groups, plus family programs for spouses and youth from 2 to 18.

MPC24 State, Regional & National Parks (M1)
Programs, resources, and opportunities at Regional Parks in Orange County. Programs, resources, and opportunities at Joshua Tree, Death Valley, Sequoia, Kings Canyon, and Anza Borrego (a state park).

MPC25 Add Pizzazz to Your Meetings (M2)
Learn how to keep your meetings fun. Discover new ideas to add excitement to your next meeting and hold their attention. Use these ideas in your Troop, Pack, Crew, and Adult meeting and training sessions.

MPC26 Take a Scout Fishing (M2)
Southern California is awash with fishing venues. Fishing is a lifetime avocation. Many experienced anglers got their start in Scouts. Learn about freshwater and saltwater fishing opportunities.

MPC27 Flag Etiquette, Salutes and Ceremonies (M2)
Learn proper etiquette for displaying the symbol of our nation with the pride, respect, and dignity that it deserves, plus a short history of the Stars and Stripes. Learn to teach duty to country as well as respect for the Stars and Strips. This is something every Scouter should know.

MPC28 Uniforms & Insignia (M1)
The how’s and why’s of proper uniforming for leaders and the Scouts they lead. Where do the insignias go and what do they represent?

MPC29On-Line Advancement Reporting (M1 or M2 – two classes offered)
Learn about Scouting’s newest Internet tool for documenting, recording, and reporting advancement records for Packs, Troops, Teams, Crews and Ships.

MPC30 Pack/Troopmaster Software (M1 or M2-two classes offered)
Learn how to maintain better control of your Pack or Troop records with this software.

MPC31 Our Unit Commissioner & Our Unit (M1)
Do you know your Unit Commissioner? Do you know what he/she can do for a Pack, Troop, Team or Crew? They are a valuable resource for your unit.

MPC32 Demystifying the Role of the Activities Chairman (M2)
District and Unit Activities Chairmen can be your secret weapon to a great program. Learn the roles and responsibilities of an Activities Chairman. Discover ways to make the job successful and simple.

MPC33 Being Financially Prepared (M2)
Being prepared includes seeing that your program costs are identified and funded. This class will help you to be sure that your unit activities have the financial resources for success. Learn the secrets of simple, high return & profitable fundraisers.

MPC34 Making Skits Entertaining (M1)
Do your meetings and campfires drag on and on. Learn how to teach youth of all ages how to tell a story. Learn how to use voice, movement and gestures to create an enjoyable skit.

MPC35 Exploring the Creatures of the Sea (M1)
The ocean and shore beckon. They are full of cetaceans, pinnipeds, cephalopods, urchins, anemones, echinoderms, and sea hares. For you landlubbers, that’s whales, seals, octopus, and tide pool creatures. Learn where and when to find them, and what to know about them before taking your outing.

MPC36 Scout of the Year Recognition and Scholarships (M2)
Learn how Eagle Scouts, Venturing Silver Award recipients and Sea Scout Quartermasters receive scholarships from the VFW and Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge.

CUB1 Cubmaster Primer (P1 or P2–two classes offered)
Basic Cubmaster College required focus course
So you have decided to be a Cubmaster, Assistant Cubmaster or even just thinking of being one, this class is for you! Learn what the Cubmaster’s job description really is according to BSA, and get a bunch of tips to boot!

CUB2 Imaginative Pack Meetings (P4 or P5 – two classes offered)
Basic Cubmaster College required focus course

The pack meeting is the time to “join” the pack as one big family. Learn how lead this party, including entertainment, adult play-acting, decorations, jokes, ceremonies, stunts, skits, songs, run-ons, cheers & sparklers, focusing on exciting Pack meetings that involve all ages. Remember a “baggie and a handshake” is no way to run a Pack meeting!

CUB3 Cub Camping Introduction (P3 or P4 – two classes offered)

Camping is an important part of the Scouting program. Learn how to bring a Cub Scout camping program to your unit. Learn who can go camping, where & when to go, what to take, and what to do once you arrive. Learn about some of the BSA formal trainings available to you.

The highest award in Cub Scouting is the Arrow-of-Light. This is the only Cub award, which can be worn on the Boy Scout and adult uniform. Keep the “Outing” in ScOuting. You don’t have to be a botanist or zoologist to explore nature with your Cub Scouts. Discover ways to bring nature to your youth even in the great indoors!

So where does the fun come in your den meeting? How about some great games! Discover neat ways to help to build unity, enthusiasm and fun through games and healthy, safe competition. These are great for Pack meetings too.

CUB19 Tiger from Ears to Tail (P1 & P2 - two period class)
Tiger Cubs are critical to your unit. Keeping them active and interested in Scouting ensures the health of your unit. This program is a must for all those new Tiger Cub den leaders. Learn the secrets of great den meetings, activities, projects, advancement, & themes for the first grade Tiger Cub and adult partner.

CUB 20 Be an Effective Pack Committee (P4)
Great Packs start with great Pack Committees. Learn tips on being a successful Pack Committee. Learn how to recruit parents and share responsibilities. Find out what the job is beyond what we learned in Pack Committee Training? Discover the tricks of the trade to ensure the unit’s yearly program planning, calendaring, training, outings, day camp, Scout-O-Rama, Blue & Gold banquet, service projects, record keeping, awards, advancement & financing are handled without a hitch.

CUB21 Cub Scout Science (P1)
Explore the world of simple science with your unit. Learn how to focus inquisitive minds on productive safe experiments and science projects. Learn tips and secrets to bring the wide world of science to your Scouts.

CUB22 Creative Cub Grub (P3) ($6 material fee)
Even your youngest Cub can be a successful cook. Discover ingenious no-fuss ways to prepare delicious meals including omelets in a bag, utensil-less cooking, oranges, onions, apples, bananas, and dough. The material fee for this class includes your lunch that you will prepare during the class.

CUB23 The Pack Trainer (M2)
Do you know the qualifications and responsibilities of a Pack Trainer? This important position orients new parents. Learn how the Pack Trainer can help the Pack achieve a 100% trained leadership and receive the Quality Unit Award. Learn about Scouting’s new adult position and recognition.

CUB24 Order of the Arrow for Your Pack (M1)
The Order of the Arrow can help your Pack with program ideas, entertainment, outings, service project ideas and ceremonies. Find out how and witness our widely acclaimed Indian Dancers in action. 


WEBELOS LEADER CLASSES

(FOR ADULT LEADERS & INTERESTED PARENTS OF 4th - 5th GRADE BOYS)

 

WEB1 Webelos Leader Workshop (20 Activity Badges) (P1 & P2 & P3 – three period class)
Webelos Den Leader College required focus course
As a current or future Webelos Den Leader, you will rotate through five (5) individual (30) thirty-minute sessions presented in a round robin format. These sessions cover the five Webelos Activity Badge Groups, Physical Skills, Mental Skills, Community, Technology, and Outdoor and briefly touch on advancement, Activity Pins, and Belt Loops.
Learn and understand techniques to make your Webelos Den activities lively, interesting, and fascinating while increasing your confidence level, gaining new ideas, and improving your skills.

WEB2 Webelos to Boy Scout Transition (P4)

Help your boys succeed in Boy Scouts with a smooth transition into the right troop for each boy. Learn how to find that exciting, suitable and compatible Troop for each of your Webelos.

Paperwork got you down? Get the tools to make it easier. Learn the mechanics, forms, records, administration and importance of an effectively administered Webelos Den.

BOY1 Now You’re a Scoutmaster or ASM – What Next? (P1 or P2 - two classes offered)
Basic Scoutmaster College required focus course
You been asked to be a Scoutmaster or ASM and you’re a bit unsure about the next step? Learn about the priorities for new Scoutmasters and ASMs in developing and guiding youth leadership at Troop meetings, Patrol Leader’s Council and working with the Troop Parent’s Committee.

BOY2 The Patrol Method (P2 & P3 or P4 & P5 – two classes offered – two periods each)

Patrol method, patrol method, that’s all you hear in Boy Scouting. Discover the trick to building a Boy run unit. Learn to encourage and train youth leaders on how to develop important leadership skills such as planning, delegation, execution and evaluation. What motivates an 11 year old? What motivates a 17 year old? Build a successful program and keep them active and enthused all year round and looking forward to their next exciting adventure.

Scout advancement is a measure of Scouting success. A Scoutmaster Conference or Board of review can be a scary adventure for many Scouts and can actually slow a Scout from advancing? Learn how to take the mystery out of these events. Properly conducting Scoutmaster Conferences and Boards of Reviews will encourage your youth to advance and strive for success, while making advancement more effective and meaningful.

BOY7 Planning a Successful Summer Camp (P3)

How do you plan for a successful summer camp? What do leaders and Scouts need to do to get the most out of their summer camp experience. Learn about physicals, costs, funding, and transportation. Understand the importance of having Scouts select their camps, schedules and activities before arriving at camp. Learn what features are available at local BSA camps.

BOY8 Eagle Process & Projects (P1 & P2 or P4 & P5 – two classes offered – two periods each)

Got a Scout on that last lap but can’t seem to get him motivated to finish those last few requirements? Learn how to encourage Scout advancement from Life to Eagle, including finishing their last required merit badges, completing their leadership positions and selecting and completing a challenging Eagle Project.

BOY9 Meaningful Advancement Ceremonies (P1)

Recognition doesn’t need to be time consuming or boring. Ceremonies add a “special touch” in recognizing the Scout’s accomplishments and encouraging his advancement on the trail to Eagle Learn the value of a well thought out ceremony. Discover tips for conducting advancement ceremonies and merit badge recognition without just a “Baggie and a Handshake”.

BOY10 Successful Troop Campouts (P4)

Learn about the equipment needed for the camper graduating from backyard to wilderness. Check out beach, mountains, desert, and forest campgrounds. Learn the proper safety procedures, equipment, and permits you’ll need. Discover new and exciting activities for your campout.

BOY11 First Year Backpacking (P2)

If the first few backpacking trips a new Scout takes are positive and fun he will develop a lifetime love of the wilderness. Learn how to establish a first year backpacking program that develops the skill and confidence to become an experienced trekker. Discover awards that can be earned while enjoying the hiking experience.

BOY12 Scout Skills & Team Building (P5)

Use simple games to help your Scouts develop skills, teamwork, and leadership. Learn how these Scout skills and team building games can help bring your unit together. Just don’t tell them they’re learning. It might spoil the fun.

BOY13 Responsibilities of a Troop Committee (P1 or P2 – two classes offered)
Great Troops begin with great Troop Committees. Learn how the Committee can support the yearly planning, service projects, and youth-selected activities. The ins and outs of record keeping, delegating, advancement, awards, financing, and most importantly team motivation concepts are discussed.

BOY14, Merit Badge Counseling (P3)
The trail to Eagle is paved with Merit Badge counselors. Find out about the no more/no less requirements method. Investigate the Counselor/Scout relationship while working with a wide range of adolescent personalities and abilities.

BOY15 Cooking with a Dutch Oven (P2 or P3 - two classes offered) ($6 materials fee)
Cooking with a Dutch oven can be fun and easy. You don’t have to get stuck with cereal and hotdogs. Get some hands on experience creating a nutritious, gourmet meal in a cast iron or aluminum Dutch oven. The material fee for this class includes your lunch that you will prepare during the class.

BOY16 Not Just a Knot – It Could Save Your Life (P4)

HAC3 Long-Term Sierra Backpack Treks (P1 & P2 – two period class)

Are you ready to take the next step to a backpack adventure? This course is for Troops, Varsity Teams, and Venturing Crews who yearn for a week-long (or more) experience in the High Sierras. Learn about food, packs, tents, sleeping bags, stoves, where to go and how to get there.

HAC4 Extreme Camping (P5)
High Adventure College elective focus course
Camping in extreme conditions, Learn to stay warm and dry on the snow and stay cool and hydrated in the desert. Camping in the extremes is much more fun when you are prepared. Learn how to build a safe snow cave. Get tips on where to go for a winter and desert camping.

HAC5 Rock Climbing & Rappelling the BSA Way (P3)

Rock climbing can be exhilarating or disastrous, depending on the training and preparation. Learn how to use Climb on Safely, a BSA certification, to lead a safe and exciting outing. Learn about training, budgeting, preparations, destinations and equipment.

HAC7 Geocashing (P4)

So you’ve learned how to use your GPS and now you’re ready to have some fun. Learn about the latest craze, geocashing. Learn the rules, where to find lists and how to maximize your fun. If you still don’t know what this is but you have access to a GPS, you need to take this class.

HAC8 Philmont and Double H Ranch Treks (M2)
High in the northeastern New Mexico Mountains, there is a beautiful place called Philmont. In the plains southwest of Albuquerque the rugged Double H Ranch awaits. Learn what to expect and how to conduct a successful Philmont or Double H Ranch Trek from planning, securing a date, getting there and having a good time.

HAC9 COPE (M1)
A Challenging Outdoor Personnel Encounter (COPE) that builds teamwork and confidence. Learn how to become certified and use this exciting program as part of your meetings and outings. Discover how COPE can help keep older Scouts, Crew members and adults interested and challenged.

HAC10 Eve in the Wilderness (M2)
If you are a lady unfamiliar with the wilderness and would like to take your Scouts camping, this class is for you. It will help overcome your fear of the outdoors and address a lady’s special needs.

HAC11 Be Bear Aware (M1)
There are few things worse than awakening to a sniffing and growling visitor in camp. Learn how to prepare your campsite to be bear free and how to fend off the furry critters should they approach.


VENTURING and SEA SCOUTING LEADER CLASSES

VEN1 Venturing 101 – The Basics (P1 or P2 – two classes offered)
Venturing College required focus course
An overview of the exciting program available to young adults between the ages of 14 to 21. This session is designed to assist the leaders and their Crew in starting (or restarting) a crew, planning and implementing the first year of program, and some exciting ideas for activities designed to bring a crew together as a team.

VEN2 Adult Leadership Roles in Venturing (P3 or P4 – two classes offered)
Venturing College required focus course
Learn how to be an “Advisor”, “how to take a back seat” and leave the “driving” to the youth leaders. Discussions of leadership techniques, skills and developing young adults to consider alternatives and consequences.

VEN3 Developing Venturing Youth Leadership (P2)
Venturing College elective focus course
In Venturing, the Advisor trains the youth leadership who then trains the Crew. This course will aid Advisors in understanding and preparing their youth leadership to work together as a team. Youth leaders will learn how to conduct a Venturing Leadership Skills Course (VLSC) and use other methods to train future leaders.

VEN4 Venturing Program Development (P5)

VEN9 Venturing Ethical Controversy Workshop (P4)
Venturing College elective focus course
Ethical controversies are required for Venturing advancement. They can be a powerful training tool and fun at the same time. Learn how to find resources and materials for conducting “life experience” ethical controversies with your Crew.

VEN10 Venturing and Sports (P2)
If your youth are athletic, there are programs for you. Experience Challenging Outdoor Personal Encounter (COPE), Venture Out, Venture Challenge, and Venture Shoot Out, provide sporting activities and a healthy amount of competition between Crew members.

VEN11 Venturing Crew Officer Responsibilities. (P1)

Young adults take a lead role in organizing and their own crew.. This class covers specific leadership tasks such as program planning, fund raising, and running effective committees. Learn real information about Crew jobs to make them easier.

SEA1 Sea Scouting is Venturing (P3)
Venturing College elective focus course
Get an overview of Venturing from a nautical prospective. Learn how to organize a Ship and conduct your Venturing program on the deep blue sea.

SEA2 Boating & Waterways Basic Water Safety, Part 1 (P1)
Sea Scouts, Venturing Ranger candidates and boating enthusiasts will learn about personal safety, boating law, navigation rules and navigation aides. Required for Sea Scout leader green square knot. You can take each part separately but we recommend you take all 3 parts.

SEA3 Boating & Waterways Basic Water Safety, Part 2 (P2)
Sea Scouts, Venturing Ranger candidates and boating enthusiasts will learn about vessel operation. Required for Sea Scout leader green square knot. You can take each part separately but we recommend you take all 3 parts.

SEA4 Boating & Waterways Basic Water Safety, Part 3 (P3)
Sea Scouts, Venturing Ranger candidates and boating enthusiasts will learn about personal watercraft, accident prevention and rescue. Required for Sea Scout leader green square knot. You can take each part separately but we recommend you take all 3 parts.

SEA5 National Sea Scout Advanced Leadership Training (P4)
Learn how Sea Scouts can acquire the necessary skills to succeed as a Boatswain. Leaders will learn how to engineer success for their Ship.

SEA6 Adventure Opportunities on the High Seas (P5)
Looking for some real high adventure. Learn how to qualify to sail with the United States Naval Academy for the Koch Cup in July 2008 on the United States Team against Sea Scouts from around the world. Discover how to Sail aboard “America’s Tall Ship” with other Sea Scouts and Cadets of the US Coast Guard Academy. Don’t miss these great opportunities.

SEA7 The Sea Scouts Boatswain’s Call (M2)
Learn how to pipe “All Hands”, “Word to be Passed”, and “Pipe the Side” to add appeal and pizzazz to Ship functions. This is recommended for all Sea Scouts wishing to hold leadership positions.

Learn the secrets of how to get what you want from the adults in your life by earning their trust. Use these methods with your Scoutmaster, father, teacher, or any other adult.

Learn what it takes to build the youth membership in your unit into a highly functional team. Make “youth run” work by making your team more efficient.

DC1 Den Chief Seminar (P1 through P5 – all day class)
An all-day series of informational classes for youth. Designed to teach Den Chiefs job responsibilities and how to perform their duties to benefit the Den, Pack, and Scout.
